Top Akubra Styles for Women

Apart from two dedicated women’s hats, wide brim European style the Milan, and the classic fedora the Bianca, all of Akubra’s hats are unisex. Without a doubt, most of the hats we sell in store here at Everything Australian to women are the classic wider brimmed Riverina or the floppy casual Avalon. However, these aren’t the only two styles that look fantastic on ladies, so I set out to explore a wider range of Akubra’s with the help of local aspiring Jillaroo Caley Hood. With current fashion and hat trends for 2019 in mind, here’s my curated list of Akubra’s for women to try out this year.

Traveller

Akubra Traveller

The Akubra Traveller is one of the most on trend hats for 2019 for both men and women, and they are flying out the door this summer. Women tend to gravitate towards this style, and a quick flick through Instagram will show you why. A little bit country casual, a little bit boho chic, but not too much of either, the Akubra Traveller is the hat that’s going to be a stylish addition to literally anything you wear. The Traveller is a soft pliable hat which is less likely to lose its shape if folded or squished, making it the perfect travelling companion, hence the name. If you are looking for a hat that will look just as chic styled with a floaty dress or casual shorts, make the Traveller your go-to hat.

Angler

Akubra Angler

The Angler has the classic Akubra look, pared back just a little, to make this one of the best casual hats for women. This hat is a little softer to the touch than some of its more rigid counterparts, with a distinctly narrower pinch at the front, which gives a finer structure to the crown and compliments a wider range of face shapes. Officially a country style hat, the sightly smaller brim means it translates well in urban environments also. This is an easy going, wear anywhere hat, that’s only going to look better when worn in.

Warrego And Round Crown Styles

Akubra Warrego

The Akubra Warrego is an unmistakably beautiful hat. Its refined western shape, the distinct round shaped crown cuts a fine silhouette. The thing about round crown styles is that women tend to get away with wearing them without creating an almost-religious look. Instead, they render more of an image of vintage beauty with a modern twist. Because of this ability to wear the style without the Amish connotations, why not flaunt it? There’s no denying round crowns look great on women, and Akubra makes quite a few round crown styles to choose from. If the super-sized 103mm brim on the Warrego is too much, the similar Aussie Gold might be more your style. The Plainsman and the Pastoralist have been a popular alternative style for country women for decades. And if you want to go full Stevie Nicks style urban bohemian, check out the Squatter hat.

Territory

Akubra Territory

The Territory in black is probably unintentionally Akubra’s most fashion forward hat. Not for the faint hearted, the wide brim Territory is a seriously stylish hat. This is a big hat for big personalities, large brim black hats have been worn by fashion icons for decades, from Bridget Bardot to Kendall Jenner, and Akubra’s offer is a fine choice. The Territory cuts a striking figure and gives instant bohemian glamour to casual outfits. The signature Akubra dip in the brim and slight western crown gives this hat the slightest hint of cowboy style without being obvious. The Territory is definitely an option to diversify your wardrobe.

Coober Pedy

 .Akubra Coober Pedy

This is one fine hat! The Coober Pedy is probably my favourite everyday hat for women. Available in a range of colours, there’s a Coober Pedy to suit every look. Looking for a hat for formal occasions? A black one is always a stylish addition. For a more casual look, the Santone Fawn can be worn anywhere, and the Sand looks amazing on women with olive complexions. The sophisticated shape of the crown and brim means the Coober Pedy will compliment a wide range of face shapes, making it a low risk hat if you are looking to give an Akubra as a gift. This is the hat if your looking for a classic Akubra look, but with a little bit of extra polish.

Banjo Patterson

Akubra Banjo Patterson

The Banjo Patterson is probably not the first hat that springs to mind when you’re thinking about Akubra’s for women, but this little cutie shouldn’t be overlooked. A delightfully casual short brim hat, the heritage fawn Banjo is a versatile soft grey that is in line with predicted trends for 2019. Made from a slightly softer felt, the shape is quite similar to the popular Traveller, but slightly more of a panama shaped crown. If your looking for a casual hat this year that’s versatile and in line with current trends, give the Banjo Patterson a go.

Milan

Akubra Milan

One of the two female-dedicated hats in the Akubra range, the Milan is the hat to go for if you want to look like you’ve just stepped off your luxury yacht after cruising the Mediterranean coast. With an unmistakeable Italian style, the Milan is certainly a hat fit for a Duchess, as exhibited by the Australian government when the presented a Milan in Sand to Meghan Markle when she visited last year. The Milan is most certainly going to fit in with Meghan’s royal wardrobe, as she has already been spotted donning several similar wide brim styles. The Milan is a made to order hat, so it pays to plan ahead if you are looking at investing in one. All Akubra hats are hand made and take around three months, but we can assure you the Milan is worth the wait. Try an understated black or bran colour for more of an everyday look, or to really stand out from the crown go for Sand, or the eye-catching electric blue (pictured)
