Product Review: Rossi Ridge Boot

Rossi boots latest offering in the lace up work boot market is the 946 Ridge, an all-round work boot that would double as a comfortable walking or hiking boot. The Ridge is also available as a steel capped safety boot, the 745.

Piping hot feet was the main complaint Rossi was hearing consistently as they gathered feedback from their Australian customers, and fair enough too, Aussie summers can be scorching. This became the main inspiration behind the Ridge, to produce a tough wearing yet comfortable boot that Australians can wear to work without cooking their feet in the process.

My first impression when slipping on the 946 Ridge is it is very comfortable, with a bouncy, cushioned sole. Also, I’m surprised at how lightweight the boots feel. The fit is wide and roomy, yet supportive around the ankle. The outer-sole is slip, oil and acid resistant, which makes them perfect for the work-site, and the mid-sole and molded foot-bed is what is giving me that great bounce underfoot. I can see how these properties will make the Ridge a fantastic boot for walking or hiking, where grip, support and comfort are a priority.

To be honest, I am a person who absolutely hates hot feet, so hearing about a boot that actually cools the feet really peaked my interest. I would wear thongs all day long if I could, but we all know that’s not possible when we are working. So, I wanted to put the ridge to the test and find out whether they really do cool the feet.

Rossi have added mesh side panels to the Ridge boot, which, they say, along with the breathable, moisture wicking lining will help to keep feet cool all day. To test this, today at work I am wearing my normal Adidas sneaker on my left foot, and the 946 Ridge on the right to see which foot is noticeably cooler. After a couple of hours, I’m happy to say that the Ridge boot backs up its claims on this one.

The genius mesh side panels are very effective in making my right foot considerably cooler than the left. Of course, if you are working in wet environments then these panels will also let water through, so take that into consideration when thinking about purchasing a pair, but in hot and dry environments, these boots are going to be a lifesaver (or foot saver!)
