Apart from two dedicated women’s hats, wide brim European style the Milan, and the classic fedora the Bianca, all of Akubra’s hats are unisex. Without a doubt, most of the hats we sell in store here at Everything Australian to women are the classic wider brimmed Riverina or the floppy casual Avalon. However, these aren’t the only two styles that look fantastic on ladies, so I set out to explore a wider range of Akubra’s with the help of local aspiring Jillaroo Caley Hood. With current fashion and hat trends for 2019 in mind, here’s my curated list of Akubra’s for women to try out this year.
Country shows are an ingrained part of Australian society, the first one held in Hobart in 1822, designed to encourage farming among the settled colony. Sydney followed the year after, quickly spreading to more than 580 regional shows throughout the country. The Korumburra show itself is currently in its 124th year and is still a major event in the local community calendar.
Having spent time and a boatload of money exploring some of the more popular islands of the Great Barrier Reef such as Lady Elliot Island and Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, without a doubt my favourite would have to be the much less advertised Magnetic Island.

If you think there a lot to see and experience on the road in Australia, you quickly learn the true magic of this wilderness happens when you leave the beaten track. Towards the end of our great journey, after bumming around in the sun in cairns for a few weeks, we decided the last wild track we had to see before our trip ended was the Bloomfield track from Cape Tribulation to Cooktown.
Sam Menche, Owner of Everything Australian, has been in this bush-wear game a long time. Sam has been making his own leather hats, Japara’s and moleskin jeans since ages ago, starting out selling them from the Queen Victoria markets. One day, however, he had an idea for something completely different. Here’s a little yarn about how he had a hand in creating what became arguably the most iconic coat in Australian dog fashion history.
The Cattleman hat is the epitome of the Akubra legacy. The proportions are part of what makes the hat so popular. The width of the brim at 8.3cm (3.25”) is not too wide to detract from its style, but wide enough to give adequate sun protection. The crown height at 10.5cm (4”) is something Australians have taken to with a passion, opting for this more moderate style rather than the heightened style of the Texan or American cowboy hat.
Contrary to common belief, Father’s Day wasn’t invented by Hallmark! It was, and still is, an important way for us to honour and appreciate the men who brought us into this world and made us into the people we are today. Of course, as much as we love our dads, for many of us the approach of Father’s Day strikes fear in our hearts! Dads can be an absolute nightmare to buy gifts for...
Luckily we’ve scoured the site to put together a list of our top 5 Father’s Day gifts for 2018
