Steel Blue

Steel Blue was company born from the true blue Australian entrepreneurial spirit. 20 or so years ago, Steel Blue CEO Gary Johnson felt that the safety boots that were available at that time to Aussie workers were pretty much the cheapest product on the Australian footwear market. Gary felt that there was no such thing as a premium work boot, and that was something that should change.

In a conversation on a football field in WA, three blokes noticed how far sports footwear had come in terms of design and performance technology and asked the question, why were the same advancements not present in safety boots? And thus, the Steel Blue work boot was born.

“For me, it all stems from an entrepreneurial spirit that’s been ingrained into our DNA as Australians. Where we see an opportunity, we don’t say no, we see what we can do” Gary said.

Steel Blue put time and research into the best leathers, the best linings, and worked on developing sole technology aimed at improving comfort, overall body health and reducing shock for the wearer. As a result, Steel Blue hit the market with a boot that was fifty percent more expensive than competitors offers.

Because of this, the company offered a thirty-day money back satisfaction guarantee, but hardly anyone returned the boots. They were on to a winner.

Gary Johnson is a man that see’s challenges as opportunities. “I saw a great sign many years ago that said, if you want to be number one, train like your number two” That ethos has stayed with Gary throughout his career, and has seen Steel Blue working with SIRO, The UWA Podiatry Clinic, the University of Canberra and ECU.

They’re training like they’re number two, to collect firsts – like their “airport-friendly” boot, which has a metal free 200J safety cap made from a composite that meets stringent international safety standards.

A huge part of Steel Blue’s company ethos is giving back, supporting their local community and the larger community of working Australians who wear their boots. The brightly coloured additions to their range are there for community conscious reasons. The bright pink and purple boots in the women’s range support Breast Cancer Care, and to date have raised a whopping 1.2 million dollars, funding extra staff to support breast cancer patients, as well as much needed research into the disease.

The Blue boots in the range support and donate to Beyond Blue, a charity helping improve the lives of Australians who struggle with depression and other mental heath challenges. The beyond blue boots also come with information on how to support others who live with these issues and where to find help if you have concerns for co-workers or mates.

Based in WA and constantly researching and developing their products to bring you premium boots with utmost safety and cutting-edge technology. Steel Blue are dedicated to continuously improving, behaving ethically and contributing to society at large.
